Eye Mama: Poetic Truths of Home and Motherhood showcases over 200 striking photographs that capture the joys and struggles of parenthood and caregiving. The images were taken by women and non-binary photographers who identify as “mamas”. They explore themes such as childhood, home, and personal identity. Through their lens, these international photographers offer an intimate look into the light and dark moments of motherhood, as well as the beauty of everyday life. The book is inspired by the Eye Mama Project, an Instagram platform established by Karni Arieli in 2021. Creating an inclusive depiction of motherhood and highlighting narratives of care is the goal of the Project. With over 50,000 submissions from more than 50 countries, the Eye Mama Project has gained recognition in notable publications such as National Geographic, Vogue, Stern, Romper, British Journal of Photography, Creative Review, and many more.
Eye Mama features a foreword by Alessia Glaviano, Head of Global PhotoVogue, and Annie Wang, an artist. This inspiring book offers an authentic glimpse into the often-unseen world of parenting and caregiving. It is the first collection of its kind and introduces the unique perspective of the “mama gaze,” offering a fresh take on caregiving. The images featured in the book were chosen by Karni and a global jury of women in photography. To find more information, visit www.eyemamaproject.com or follow the Instagram handle @eyemamaproject.
